Ice Diving can be a serene and beautiful aspect to diving. Its a great Local Winter diving activity. Ice Diving offers Divers a opportunity to enjoy sport diving year round. Diving under the Ice does present hazards not normally seen to the Recreational diver and requires special training. the purpose of this course is to acquaint the diver with the many hazards associated with Ice diving and how to plan and execute an ice dive.
This Course will require 1 Classroom session and 2 Open water Ice Dives with an instructor. All Divers must be Advanced Open Water Certified before the course is taken and they must be at least 18 years old.
What You Learn…
The IANTD Ice Diver Course will focus on training, such as, Ice evaluation, Hole cutting, Diver deployment, Communication & Signals, Line Tender Duties, Emergency & Lost Diver procedures, and Hole closing & marking. You will also learn about cold water physiology, hypothermia, hazards and emergency procedures, buoyancy and trim awareness, and proper weighting.
What You Need…
You will use basic Diving equipment including BCD, Regulator, Mask, Depth & Pressure Gauge, 2 – 80 cu. Ft. Tanks, Weights, Fins, Wet suit (7mm), Drysuit or Semi-dry suit.
Rental gear is available at an extra cost.
Classes are offered in January, February, March, and December.
Classroom – January 23, February 20, March 12, and December 17th at 530 pm – 8 30 pm at PDD.
Open Water Training Dives- January 25,26(Lake Mendota), February 22,23(Lake Geneva), March 14,15(Fortune Pond), and December 19,20(Fortune Pond).
